The game

Five puzzles a day. A Climb with no top.

Every day brings five hand-arranged puzzles, then an endless Climb that grows with you. Positions come from real games (millions of them, drawn from the Lichess open database), and when you're stuck, hints start with the idea, not the answer.

The campaign

Relight the kingdom, one square at a time.

The Last Light is a kingdom of guttered lanterns. Sixty-four levels wind down eight chapters of painted road, and every board you win lights another lantern along it. At the end of each road, a keeper waits in the dark.

  • Eight chapters, sixty-four levels Lessons, drills, and real positions. Not just puzzles.
  • Eight keepers to face, from 200 to 1600 Elo Each with their own style, their own temper, their own fire.
  • Start where you actually are Tell us your level, or play three positions and we'll find it.

Cinder

PLAYS AT 200 ELO

The first flame you'll face. Reckless, eager, beatable. The door into the dark.

Sable, a drowned keeper lit by cold cyan lamplight

Sable

PLAYS AT 800 ELO

Halfway down the kingdom, where the road sinks and the light turns cold.

Vesper, the final keeper, robed in moth-violet light

Vesper

PLAYS AT 1600 ELO

The last keeper on the last road. Patient, precise, and waiting.

Your teacher

Wick walks you through every lesson.

Openings are taught as ideas: what the moves are for, played out on a live board with Wick narrating. Try the wrong move and nothing is lost. The board simply waits while he explains. You cannot fail a lesson, and every lesson replays whenever you want it back.

“Minutes here this week — instead of scrolling.

That's the only number Wickmate brags about. It counts the time you spend here and shows it to you plainly: minutes that went to something you chose, instead of a feed. Time you'll be glad you spent.

  • No ads for members
  • Streaks you can protect — never threats
  • An Elo you actually earn
  • No feed, no infinite anything

Questions, answered honestly

When does it launch?

There's no public date yet; it's still in polish. The waitlist hears first, and it's the only place we'll announce early access.

Is it free?

Free to play, with an energy meter: every attempt spends a charge, and charges refill on their own. A membership removes the limits. Final details and pricing will be on the App Store page at launch.

Are there ads?

Members never see ads. That's a promise, not a tier. The free version may offer an optional watch-a-video refill, and nothing more: no banners, no interstitials, ever.

I'm a beginner. Is it for me?

It's built for you. The campaign starts with how the pieces move and tops out at 1600 Elo. Wick teaches every lesson, you can't fail them, and you start wherever you actually are.

Can I play against friends?

Not yet. Wickmate is single-player: you, the puzzles, and the keepers. If that changes, the waitlist hears first.

What platforms?

iPhone first. Nothing else is announced.
